New wind farm posited for north-east

23 December 2007

An energy firm has announced its hopes for a new wind farm to provide energy to 8,000 homes in the north-east of England.

Broadview Energy has submitted a document detailing a consultation for the facility to Hambleton and Stockton councils.

The scheme would see eight turbines created on land between Seamer and Hilton near Yarm, the Northern Echo reports.

Jeff Corrigan, managing director of Broadview Energy, said: "The project, which will help fight climate change, is well-located near to existing electricity transmission lines and has a good wind resource."

He added that only after a successfully conducted consultation would an application for planning permission be submitted.

Current projects awaiting planning permission for wind farm development by Broadview Energy are located at the Hill of Fiddes in Aberdeenshire and Westnewton near Allerdale in Cumbria.
